July 28-29, 2023

In 2022, the Committee on Rules of Practice and Procedure voted unanimously to approve an amendment to Federal Rule of Evidence 702. Aimed at clarifying the standards for admission of expert testimony, the amendment is expected to take effect December 1, 2023, with changes likely to follow in state analogs. Learn how the amendment will strengthen the role of the court as gatekeeper for the admissibility of expert opinion.

The National Foundation for Judicial Excellence (NFJE) supports a strong, independent, responsive judiciary by providing officers of the courts with educational programs and other tools that enable them to perform at their highest level.
