Agriculture in Uncertain Times

Steven Bryant, Partner in Locke Lord’s Austin office and member of the Firm’s Bankruptcy, Restructuring and Insolvency Practice Group, served as the guest editor for the December 2022 issue of the Journal of Corporate Renewal (JCR), a monthly publication of the Turnaround Management Association. Each month, the JCR’s guest editor solicits that month’s articles and authors the issue’s introductory “guest editor’s column.” The December 2022 JCR spotlighted the agricultural sector. In his column, Bryant discussed the neglect and decline of modern agriculture and the challenges facing agricultural enterprises. “As critical as agricultural markets may be to our species’ very survival, most people in the Western world don’t spend too much time thinking about these issues – or at least they didn’t until skyrocketing food prices, supply chain disruptions and a great-power proxy war in Europe’s breadbasket (i.e., Ukraine) converged to force these‎ matters to the front of their minds,” said Bryant.
