Leadership Views
“We’d be hard pressed to find a better match between our two firms. We share industry focuses and pair exceptionally well geographically. Most of all, our commitment to high performance, collaboration, and excellence in all we do is clear.”
David Taylor
Chair, Locke Lord
“The high-performance culture of our combined firm sets us apart and will enable us to realize the benefits of this merger immediately. To me, the most exciting part is getting to know our new colleagues — so we can become more resourceful and increasingly valuable to our clients and to each other.”
Amie Colby
Managing Partner, Troutman Pepper
“We’re combining strength with strength — in six key industries, with complementary geographies. Clients want us to be industry specialists. To be smart in their world. That means being up to speed on their industry and seeing ahead to what comes next.”
Tom Cole
Chair, Troutman Pepper
“In addition to practice, industry, and geographic synergies, we think alike on critical values, including commitment to innovation; pro bono and community service; and diversity, equity, and inclusion. It’s an ideal match across the board.”
Ashley L. Taylor, Jr.
Vice Chair, Troutman Pepper
FAQS
We are merging because the combined firm will significantly benefit our clients and our people. Our clients will have greater resources in key industries, access to more high-quality lawyers, and expanded presence in geographies that are important to them. Our firms also are aligned on values, with commitments to client service, continuous innovation, inclusion, and pro bono and community service work. In short, we won’t just be a bigger firm, but a better one.
The combined firm will provide greater depth and breadth of services across the board. In each of our core industry sectors — energy, financial services, health care and life sciences, insurance and reinsurance, private equity, and real estate — we are building strength on strength, and will offer true full-service capability for clients’ transactional, regulatory, intellectual property, and litigation and disputes needs. The larger platform also means greater capability to handle any matter, of any size or complexity, anywhere, at any time.
The footprint of the combined firm includes 30+ offices. We will offer more than 600 lawyers in the Northeast, with a significant presence in Boston, Philadelphia, and the New York metro area. In the South, our bench is particularly deep, with nearly 700 lawyers in locations including Texas, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, and Virginia. We will also offer deeper resources in California and the Midwest, including Chicago.
Current clients will see no immediate changes to the lawyers with whom they work or existing billing rates and fee agreements. In the near future, we will be able to offer more services in more locations and provide deeper experience and a broader team in high-demand practices and industry sectors — all of which enhance your client experience and the value we deliver. If you have specific questions about your matters, please reach out to the lawyer with whom you regularly work.
We will post updates on lockelord.com and troutman.com. You also can stay updated by following Locke Lord and Troutman Pepper on LinkedIn or our other social media channels.

Kent Zimmermann of the Zeughauser Group said, “I think this has the potential of being one of those Harvard Business School case studies on strategic growth in law firm management.”
The Texas Lawbook, April 18, 2024
“Troutman Pepper and Locke Lord are in merger talks to create a combined firm with more than 1,600 attorneys and nearly $1.6 billion in revenue, in what appears to be an effort to lock in both firms’ leadership in six industry sectors.”

Atlanta recruiter Shannan Rahman of The Partners Group said, “The possible merger is a ‘really big deal’ that could grow each firm’s revenues and scale significantly...”
The American Lawyer, April 24, 2024
