Roadways to the Bench: Who Me? A Bankruptcy or Magistrate Judge

Helen Turner has been selected by the Judicial Conference Committees on the Administration of the Bankruptcy System and the Magistrate Judges System to serve as a Table Captain during its national diversity event for law students and attorneys on April 3, 2023 in Houston, TX. Generally, Table Captains are attorneys who are currently or have previously clerked for federal judges.

Four federal judges will kick off the event with a discussion on "Roadways to the Bench: Who Me? A Bankruptcy or Magistrate Judge?," which will be live-streamed from Washington, D.C. Local roundtable sessions will follow, where participants will have the opportunity to interact with federal judges. Houston's local committee will focus its event on women and minority lawyers and law students to garner interest in bankruptcy, demystify the process of getting to the federal bench, and allow lawyers and law students to interact with bankruptcy, magistrate, district, and circuit court judges.  

The event aims to further the goal of casting a wide net to attract the broadest possible pool of qualified applicants to serve as federal judges.
